Synopsis

Freedom of expression and information are fundamental rights that form the foundation of democratic societies, as they allow individuals to express their opinions and access a wide range of ideas and viewpoints. However, this freedom comes with the responsibility of ensuring the accuracy and fairness of information dissemination.
In this context, the right of reply emerges as a complementary and necessary guarantee, as it is through this right that the importance of balancing freedom of expression and the right to information with personal rights (the right to honor, the right to image, the right to privacy, and the right to identity) is recognized, since it represents a legal mechanism to correct false, erroneous, inaccurate, or incomplete information that may harm the aforementioned rights.
