Freedom of expression in electoral processes
Synopsis
One of the fundamental problems experienced during the last election period is the tension between hate speech and the rematerialization of the public sphere with ideological antagonism. The public presentation of populism—whether right-wing or left-wing—is clear evidence of the urgent need to bring the big, complex issues closer to the people.
This text describes the problems associated with freedom of expression in electoral processes and seeks to raise awareness of the need to protect it in the face of the spread of lies (infodemic), which seriously undermines a country's democratic condition. The role that lies play in any process of life can generate uncertainty, fear, and a serious security problem for those who disseminate the information.
