Right to be forgotten on the Internet
Synopsis
The use of technological tools has brought great benefits to people. For example, we can store our “large digital memory” on the internet, so that wherever we are and as long as we have internet access, we can consult and use this memory. However, these benefits have brought new challenges for people's rights regarding the processing of their personal data, because when we upload certain information to the internet, we lose control over its destination and use, as well as when we transfer our data to third parties, whether public or private entities. Hence, the general objective of this work is to analyze, from the perspective of civil law theory, the recognition of the right to erasure or to be forgotten, in order to determine its mechanisms for protecting personality rights, such as honor, privacy, image, and personal data, in light of their impact in the information society.
